When I needed to create a “logo” to represent my work, it took a good deal of thought. My interests are varied and my pieces run the gamut...there just didn’t seem to be a handy theme. The only thing that came to mind was wild ponies. Nothing can control them. They run here and run there; they can be all over the place with their energy.
My artist life is like that. One day oils on canvas on the river, the next day pastels or gouache in the garden, another (lucky) day and I’m in a foreign country with my camera; that’s the way I love it to be. I feel consistent in one thing only...my mind’s similarity to wild ponies.
I am strongly drawn to beauty and novelty, so foreign travel is a natural magnet for me. I’m not much for famous landmarks or map reading so I end up off the beaten path, following my instincts until I meet up with something or someone fascinating.
It’s rewarding to find unique people and places. It fits well with my dual career of art and psychology. Having worked in both fields, I keep an art studio no matter where I live or how I make a living.
The self-portraits are a way of interacting with a camera that I learned at the Maine Photographic Workshops and have continued since. A very personal means of imaging self-expression, they are much different than a painting or a lovely photograph. They each depict an issue I've struggled with in life. I’ve set them up for you to view along with my other work because you might find them interesting and have your own interpretation.
