There is an annual exhibit at the Columbia Art League called "Interpretations" in which painters are given a poem to interpret with paint and poets are given a painting to interpret with words. This piece, Spring in the Aquarium, was completed for "Interpretations VI" which is the sixth year of this type of exhibit. The poem I was given was about a garden growing alongside a mouse swimming in a bucket "never leaving, never arriving." Such was the pandemic to this poet. I didn't care to include the mouse, but the zebra butterfly was also mentioned so I chose to include that. Much more picturesque than a captured rodent. A butterfly would never be in an aquarium...but which of us thought we would be in a pandemic?
