The original work is painted with a mixture of oil paint and cold wax on canvas as an abstraction of my adoration for sailing and all things sailboat.
I have a deep, gut-level, love of sailing. It's not that I have been on that many sailboats or raced them or owned them but my first sail came at a very impressionable time in my life. I developed a special feeling for the wind in my hair; the power of the invisible air to fill a sail and perfectly turn a boat, slow it, speed it up, let it go adrift... I never get tired of watching sailboats. This piece is an abstraction of the excitement I find there. The work is done in oil paint mixed with cold wax, a technique which allows for plenty of layering and texturizing bringing the sea to life. It's one of the few times I set out to do an abstract painting and I was surprised to see an object emerge from the surface of the paper. This original comes matted and framed in a gold plein air frame and there is no charge for shipping.
